Thanks for the quick response.

As well as the DEP problem, I am experiencing other difficulties..maybe a virus. Data Execute Prevention has shut down McAfee Validation Service resulting in not being able to run anti-virus scan- why would it close a anti-virus software?? Also, when browsing, I am being redirected to websites offering antivirus software etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Yes, the redirect is a definite indication of malware.
Can you download and run malwarebytes.
Can you run a scan with the online eset online scanner (no download needed)
http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner

When at the phoney site, do not click on anything, use task manager to end the process.
You are being shut down in an effort to force you to buy the phoney crap.

I am unable to download malwarebytes as I am being redirected. However, I was able to run the online scanner which cleaned 8 of 12 infections. Still not able to browse without being redirected.

Update: I managed to download/install malwarebytes- but not able to run is as I apparently 'do not have the appropriate permission'. Seems this virus is blocking anti-malware.

All typical symtoms.
Just be patient, she will be along as soon as she checks in. May I add, its worth the wait. I have seen her perform miracles. She will not get involved with Trojans, however, they can be too destructive and she suggests an reinstall, in those situations.
