Ok,

bit of a long one, but I will explain best I can!

Bought windows 7 to update from vista. Couldnt install because of an error code 0x80070500, said I should run chkdsk. Tried running chkdsk, said it was already in use so I scheduled to run on start up....This is were it gets strange...

Wouldnt run because it says 'no direct access to file' then it carried on loading, for some reason it come up with 'activate now' or activate later' so I thought ok, still got key on bottom of laptap ill just put vista key in again, but when I select activate now it skips straight telling me the key isnt genuine without me even putting one in! try selecting 'enter different number' but it just freezes! ...ANY help much apprriciated!

but I cant enter it? it skips straight to telling me I entered wrong key without me doing anything!... although, when it wouldnt install, it told me it was rolling back to previous version (vista) but good shout though...I definatly would have entered vista key first!

First back up your stuff
Then take the hard drive test and lets go from there

I gave you the hard drive test, check my earlier posts.
I think that is why chkdsk came one. You may have a problem.
If you have a Seven Install, DVD, that will work, if the recovery will.

If you pass the hard drive test, try this
It gives all the reasons that you CANNOT have Seven, if any

Thanks for that...while I search for a diognostic tool that works with toshiba, apparently they dont have their own...I have tried a 'clean' install, rather than from desktop, different problem this time, which again my be related to harddisk but ill ask incase someone knows..

When I change bios to boot from cd, the first option that you get is..

1.
2.
select CD-ROM Boot type:

I select '1' and it continues to the windows install, however, when it reboots after the 'expanding files' section, it boots to the first screen (select cd-rom boot type) when I select '1' again, it starts the install process again...

Like I say, possibly related to hdisk, but posted incase someone has come across this.

If the Toshiba test was for the hard drive you have to back up your stuff because the drive may go at any time.
