Solved Vista Business cannot see second processor

Member
I have seen couple of threads regarding this subject and all confirmed that Vista Business should see the second physical processor (not dual core). I can see the processor in the Device Manager but the task manager only sees one. All drivers are updated. I tried msconfig advanced options but can only see one processor there.
I also tried the uncheck of the box restart and recheck that was suggested in one of the threads but that did not work either.

How can I make Vista Business see the second physical processor?
Your help will be greatly appreciated as my poor processor is constantly working at 100%
Thanks

Welcome

Go to task manager, go to performance tab
go to view
CPU History
Then check one graph per CPU

Thanks Richard,
I apologize that I am new to this forum and not sure where I should post the question.
My problem is that Vista cannot see the second physical processor not just the display in the task manager.

Adjust it in task manager and lets see if its, then, recognized.
Your question is a bit out of my area of expertise, but if I cannot help there are others here that surely can.

I tried but it did not recongnize it.

I saw a posted solution on another forum that suggested replacing the HAL.DLL with the HALMACPI.DLL from windows>system32 but wanted to know if there are any other easier solutions before trying this drastic one.

We have members in all the time zones, and log in at different times. May I suggest that you give it at least 48 hours, before taking that course of action. I am sure that someone will have ideas. I tried my best to get you an answer, as soon as posible, but was unable.

I was under the impression ONLY winserver's could be multi-cpu use.

All versions can see the cpu, but can't talk to it.

What board do you have?

After searching bing and google, i've found no threads saying buisness can use multi cpu's, though ms has it in the **'s

But I've only seen it as buisness server.

IT is ACPI x86 based PC with two physical AMD-762 Processor to AGP Controller.

Micorosoft and many forums including this one confirmed that Vista Business can recognize both dual core and two physical processors but I am not sure how to do that

Well, learn something everyday...

Whats the actual model? as you might need special drivers.

Hmm, have you gone into the bios to see if both are active? Most BIOS have the ability to disable cores..
Have you had this setup run ning before?

The following steps took care of the problem and have to be done in sequence:
rename Hal.dll file to Hal.OLD (windows\system32)
copy Halmacpi.dll to create Halmacpi.dll-copy
rename Halmacpi.dll to hal.dll
from run command msconfig select the boot tab
select advanced options and uncheck the box for the number of processors
restart the system

This solution is not for dual core processors but for two physical processors.
I was able to do that without booting using the CD
I blelieve this should work on all Vista but I am not sure it will work on the home edition.

Thanks for everyone who tried to help.
