New member seeking guidance.

I have just found the Windows VistaForums site, 'by accident', and I did not know it existed. I have been using a laptop for about 2 years now, being mostly self taught.
I have a Lexmark 3in 1 printer, and have scanned photos and successfully emailed them. However, I have bought an Epson V500 scanner, so that I can scan negs. and slides. As yet I have not attempted to set up the scanner, which I believe can be fairly simple. But in the last 1/2 hr on viewing here, I see that some people have set up the scanner, which has worked for a couple of days, then they have had problems. My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1545, 32 bit.
Any helpful guidance notes, or suggested sites on here would be appreciated.
Hopefully, I have posted this in the correct forum, for a start.
Thanks.

Yiknaa,
Welcome to Vista Forum!
1. Download the most current driver for your type of system from this link
Epson Perfection V500 Photo, Drivers & Downloads - Technical Support - Epson America, Inc.

2. After downloading driver unplug scanner connections to your PC
3. Re-Boot your system
4. When system has restarted and you are logged in THEN plug in your Epson Scanner

Your operating system should find your scanner and function without any problems.
Post back if you need more assistance.
