Vista installes duplicate printers

I'm working on an HP Pavilion dv6700 laptop with Vista Home Premium 32 bit, and I often disconnect my printers and other peripherals to move the laptop around. The next time I reconnnect my USB cables, Vista re-installs everything, so I end up with this situation:

I

Vista will happily continue to install Copy 2, Copy 3 and so forth.

Have I munged a setting somewhere, or is there some way of avoiding this?

Many thanks in advance!

(Just noticed I mis-spelled "installs" in the Subject line.

THW is correct. In addition if his suggestion does not work, you should have the setting as he suggested. It is good to have an idea of what is going into your computer and you should be able to make the final decision.
