interactive logon initialization has failed

Hi there,

I'm running Vista Home Premium (on Acer Aspire 5735).

Yesterday all was working fine, nothing changed/updated.

This morning, my computer could not get past the 'loading bar' screen, I waited 10 minutes, forced a reset, and used system restore.

This took an age, eventually going to a black screen with cursor (which I could move), another long wait, and the problem in the title pops up, click OK and everything works fine.

I've done a couple of resets to see if the problem ceases, it doesn't. I've tried the recommended system restore, with no luck.

An old thread on a different forum suggests the only solution is to pick a new hard copy of vista, and restore from that. My laptop (as is the case nowadays) did not come with any windows CD's.

Any help much appreciated!!

Hello, and thank you for the info.

I've tried this, and unfortunately encounter the same problem.

Other sources say that a 'new' vista CD must be used for the recovery?

I'm on the verge of a complete reinstall, which I'm loathe to do as I have a lot of statistical software etc. installed.

Thanks.

Thanks again:

If it helps I'm running Service Pack 2 as well... (plus i 'assume' I have 32 bit).

OK, the sequence is:

(Takes about 10-15 min)

Boots as per normal
Hits the loading/activity bar windows screen and stays there for the majority of the time
Then, it goes to a black screen with cursor I can move
Then the error message in the title pops up
Then everything is fine

Other than this, the computer is running quickly, loading everything fine.

I installed the latest windows updates, just inc ase this might prod it past the problem (no effect), and I've done the usual mem-check, virus/malware scanning etc.

I've also tried the inbuilt system restore/last known good config. etc and from backup disk.

Hope thats enough info?

Thanks again.

Ahhh thank you!

I shall give the Sydi server inventory script a go and see if it can identify any possible conflicts from updates,

Thanks again,

I'll post back with results.
