What Are they called????

I know there is a USB Converter that turns your 1.1 USB Port to 2.0 and even 3 0 now, I see the card type, but not the one that fits into the USB Slot... I just need the name so I can price them out on ebay, cheaper somwhere else....

Thank you for your time

Actualy I found what I was looking for, well It is a smartcard with usb 2.0 converter on it, I was trying to look for one with USB plug in to computer to USB 2.0 converter, but on ebay I found a smartcard reader 2.0 and then I will get a USB 2.0, or 3.0 smartcard converter if it can be done on my computer. smartcard.

2x 1394a and 1x USB 2.0 Combo Laptop Expresscard 34mm | eBay
USB2.0 ExpressCard | eBay
Add 1x USB 3.0 & 1x USB 2.0 to Laptop, ExpressCard Bus | eBay
I am hoping this combo will work on my system, to boost the USB to 2.0, but even better if I can go to 3.0, and do I need a 3.0 cable to run from my 10port, 2.0 hub to 3.0 card? or what.... Or if a 2.0 cord for 2.0???? I need to know so I can save up and get things bit by bit each pay day, unless I get at one place and they give me a discount by buying directly through the company...

Hope these links work so you get an Idea on what I am talking about....

I was hoping that there was a converter that plugged directly into the port instaed of having to get the card reader..

ok if there is, I would like to know....

Thank you very much...

I'm no expert on hardware but I think that would work, I suggest that you find a second opinion just in case.

It wouldn't matter which cable you use, be it USB 2.0 or USB 3.0, because you have a USB 2.0 controller on your 10 port hub, it will only run at 2.0 speeds. There is no need for a 3.0 cable, but it would work

In response to the original question, no matter what you plug into your existing USB slot, it will always remain exactly what it is right now, in other words you can't plug something in to magically convert an existing USB 2.0 or lower slot to USB 3.0. You would have to replace the USB slot card altogether and for that you would have to make sure that the laptop motherboard is compatible with the new card and v.v. and supports the higher transmission rate, otherwise you'll waste your money and end up with exactly the same speed you have now.

Edit: Incidentally I added a USB 3.0 card to my rig and it works fine but as it's at the back of the tower, it's rarely used simply because it's inconvenient to do so, but at least I proved that my M/B could take the heat, so to speak. My external HDD is eSATA so it's plenty fast already.

So what you are saying, I need to replace the port completley if it is compatible????, and how do I tell if it is compatible?????, PLus If it can be replaced, is it a matter of unplugging from the board, or using a soldering iron, which I dont have...?????
I need a 2 port internal for laptop that is stacked 1on top of the other, not side buy side, and another that is single.. I need the proper term for them so I can price them out on ebay..

You would have to research the motherboard and see if it is compatible with a higher USB standard. Best to take it into a PC repair shop.

I try to plug the keyboard and mouse to the hub and they dont work.... My Printer wont function right with the hub either....

OK now the only way to improve transfer speeds on USB ports would be most likely to update the controller or the chipset drivers, but exactly what to do and which ones to use would be the subject of a new thread elsewhere.

You should be able to tell if they are functioning properly in the device manager > right-click Computer > properties > Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus Controllers

it shows they are working prpoery....I just dont know how to get my hub working right...I think the USB cables we got maybe rated for lower speeds, I'm not sure....Is there a way to tell if it is a 2.0 cable? or not?
