i have a dell xps laptop m1530 with vista home premier

i'm trying to do a factory image restore

during startup i press F8, then i press "repair your computer"

normally this will bring up the dell repair tools

but instead i'm directed to a user login page, no matter what i type in i get a message something like this "domain doesn't exist or cannot be contacted....."

has anyone had this problem, please help me, brad

I would ask on the Dell forum. Somebody probably ran into the same error ans solved it. Plus nearly all the readers there should have Dell computers, unlike here.

I use image backup programs. It's been a long time since I did a wipe and factory restore. Plus I've seen where the restores don't always work(like the wrong disc in the box or the wrong files on the restore partition.) I don't trust 'em.

If you go to Dell site and click Support there should be a link to the forums.

The other thing is, if you can find a Vista install DVD iso image and burn the DVD, you can install for free 90 day evaluation by installing with no product key. There's even a tutorial how to extend it to 120 days in the Tutorials sub forum on this forum.

A Factory image restore is a process that resets your computer to exactly as it was when you first turned on the computer

warning   Warning
It will erase all files, users and programs installed

Tip   Tip
Backup your Files manually onto an External Harddrive before you restore - you will have to reinstall all your programs separately

Since your image maybe corrupt or you have had some errors then I would contact Dell or goto the Dell Forums who specialise in this area.

Hope This Helps,
Josh
