User names

I have 3 different users set up.

My question concerns the names etc.

So I have one user called abc, which I see at the logon section where you would choose which user you wanted to go under.

However, in other places like when you go into Computer and c:\users I don't see that name abc listed, but it appears as "main".

Any ideas on why this is ?

If you change a name, it remains the same in many places.
This is the way the OS works.

Following the information given here. If the results are up to expectations, I would not worry about it.
User profile folders in Windows Vista
If results differ, the cause may be a corrupted admin account. For test purposes, create a new administrator account and see if any new users created from that account appear correctly.
Note one of this tutorial gives information about changing names, which per your post, however, is not your problem

It does indicate how the problem may be solved.

Thanks,
the gist of my issue is summed up in the 2nd link you provided, i.e., the user (folder) name isn't the same as user at the startup login screen.

The link doesn't say much as to how this occurs and only list a drastic solution, reinstall windows.

Try and set up user accounts from a new administrative account and see if that works. Could be corrupted account.
