I have installed a stock price charting program called Metastock.
When I try to open it, I get an error message: 'Unable to install Windows service'
Having Googled a bit, I have found that this can be caused by issues with three things:
1. Registry cleaning software. I had CC Cleaner (Piriform) installed and I have removed it.
2. Problems with Administrative tools. In Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services/AST is Stopped. If I click Start I get 'Error 1717: The interface is unknown'
3. Problems with Event Log. In Control Panel/Administrative Tools/ if I double click Event Viewer I get the message: 'Event Log service is unavailable. Verify that the service is running.
Can I manually sort out these problems?
If not, can I reinstall Vista (or the missing parts) without affecting (or, heaven forbid, having to reinstall) all the other programs on this machine?
Thanks.
