Is Apple Needed?

On a Vista Ultimate x64 SP2 machine I have this folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
and subordinate folders CFNetwork.resources, CoreFoundation.resources, CoreGraphics.resources, Foundation.resources, JavaScriptCore.resources and WebKit.resources
As far as I know, I do not use anything related to Apple. What are these resources for? And, do I need them?

I don't have I-tunes or Quick Time. I am looking for a program to convert old VHS tapes to digital files on my PC. I don't want to burn DVD's. If Quick Time can do this and provide an editing facility I may get it!
