Dell Inspiron 531S

I have a Dell Inspiron 531S Desktop, with 3gb RAM and the OS is Vista Home Premium 32bit. The PC is about 4 yrs old but new to me. My first Dell.

I expect this question has asked before but search did not find anything.

As with most off the shelf computers Dell puts a lot of programs that load up automatically such as Welcome Center, Dell Support Center, E Center etc.

What I want to know is how to stop these crap programs from loading on startup or remove them completely. IS this safe to do?

I ran msconfig and on the Startup Tab, I tried to stop "Welcome Center" from running on bootup, but it still runs.

On the Services Tab, nothing is listed as Dell services.

Is there anyway to get rid of these unnecessary programs. I considered installing "Soluto" but the experience I have had with Soluto it slows down the bootup considerably and really do NOT want to use it.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you

Welcome
Your problem has been mentioned many times in the forum. You are referring to what is called bloatware. Some members in our Seven forum have gone to the expense of buying a Seven DVD to rid them selves of this problem. I would suggest making a system restore point, just in case things go wrong and then with these instructions remove one at a time and test the computer. If you do not like the results put it back with system restore. Then make a new system restore and remove the next and test it, etc, etc

I found a solution that worked pretty well. It is called PC-Decrapifier. I do suggest making an image of your OS partition prior to using it.

Download | The PC Decrapifier

It is a stand alone file so it does not have to install. Just be careful and follow the instructions.
