Unable to complete the format

I'm trying to format a DVD-RW. I get an error message - Windows vista message unable to complete the format.

My computer is an HP - Vista - 32bit

Please advice.

I have downloaded the hotfix but now I get an other error - Microsoft Self-Extractor - One or more files were not succesfully unzipped. The error code is 40.

I was able to open the zip file. But when I run the update I got a message --The update does not apply to your system.

I have been having problems with my start up. I did run a program on the registry -- 300 + errors but I did not by it. Should buy one? If so which one?

If you do not listen to anything else, please pay attention here. Those regs things are usually scams, they scare you into buying them. Dont buy the or use them.

Make a system restore point in case of problems with this procedure
then
go to device manager (type that in search), uninstall the dvd drive driver.
Boot the computer, make sure that a new drive was installled.

I deleted the driver and restarted the computer and installed the driver. It still did not work --- same message.

But I had a HP DVD-R disc so I tried it and the computer formatted the disc, it works just fine, so for same reason my HP computer does not like Staples DVD-RW discs. I will be returning the discs tomorrow.
