Solved How can I reset USB device numbers?

everytime i plug in my usb microphone, or my usb webcam into a different usb port than where the device was before, windows gives it a new number that i can see in options.

here is what i mean:

the number 3 next to the micrphone means that it is the 3rd different usb port on my computer that i connected that mic to. when i bought the mic first and plugged it into a front usb port for the first time, there was no number there. then i unplugged it and plugged it into a usb port on teh back of my computer and it gave it the number 2. then i plugged it into another usb port on the back and it gave it the number 3 etc etc. this happens with lots of usb devices that i hook up.

how can i reset all those numbers to make it so that there would be no numbers displayed before the name of the device?

Hi,

Do you have a need to move the unit to other USB ports? If not, uninstall the device & then only put it into one port & your done. OK?

i cannot do that. at first i use to use my mic through the front usb ports, but now i installed it through the rear port so that the cables dont bother me in the front of the computer.

i heard someone say on the internet that one can manually change these numbers in the registry, but he didnt explain how.
