Hi all. I see that these StartupRepair problems seem to be kind of common and i have my own. Tried doing Startup Repair, tried doing System Restore. I will probably reformat the drive but as the computer belongs to my tech illiterate parents who want random garbage they have on their computer to be saved DESPITE never being used... I come for help.

Hi,

As a quick & easy option: - "That is what you want"?

First boot from a Ubuntu CD/DVD & save your data.

Download | Ubuntu

Then re-install windows for speed.

As you are still on original (No SP) software, the important bit is to "Update the system"!
