I have just bought a 2nd hard drive and had a few problems with it and have tried to defrag it tonight but when i do i get a box with message saying it windows can not find

C:\windows\system32\dfrgui.exe

Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again.

so what does this mean? and is there any need really to defrag it?

if so how can i get round this?

The bottom right of the defrag screen, you can see the color codes for the colors. I really dont recall because I do not defrag often. There is a controversy concerning possible damage to the HD with over defrag. Auslogics has a analyze function. if its not 10% or more I dont defrag.
It is good to defrag on on ocassional basis, but not too often.
Others say not lack of defrag causes problems, but Im old school.

Just because your hard drive needs defragging does not necessarily mean that there is something wrong with your files just that they are split up into pieces that aren't contiguous. If you research it perhaps you'll understand what's going on.

just one more thing how offer would you say to defrag?

Probably every member has a different answer. I read that when you are fragged 10% or more. You will find if you do not download and uninstall much, you do not have to defrag often at all.
