Absurd alledged disk writes when running backup

I wanted to see how fast I was backing up to my USB portable drive using EaseUs backup, so I looked in the task manager, see:

It appears to have written 2.6TB in a few minutes. I know it hasn't, it's only a 500GB drive. It claims to be writing about 10GB per second which would finish the backup in 50 seconds, but it takes a few hours.

Any ideas what's going on?

Just a bit of a random guess, I'd say it's just a bad report from task manager. I'd guess that there's some bug preventing TM from gathering accurate info from your hard drive. I don't do much in the way of backups, so I wouldn't be able to tell you specifically if it was some weird behavior. I know you're probably just asking out of curiosity, but if you're worried about it don't be. As long as everything's being backed up properly it shouldn't really matter what it reports.

A few other possible guesses: you're looking at the correct process, right? :)
It might have something to do with how the backup software works, that it has to report that much activity for some reason. Or, it may even be that that number represents how much it has EVER written and read.

Sorry that I can't give you anything more specific or concrete. Someone else may come along who knows more about it.
