USB Ports Not Working

Please forgive me in advance as I am new to the forum.

I'm no computer expert but I can get around a bit. I don't know my way around the BIOS screen though. I would say I'm an intermediate user I suppose?

I recently got some software/hardware for transferring VHS and copying DVD's. I decided to hook up my DVD player last night and in the process, I mistakenly unplugged my PC while it was still running. I've done this once before a year or so ago and had no problems.

After I turned the PC back on, I noticed that my mouse was not lighting up. I tried another mouse and it didn't work either. I then took the original mouse and hooked it up to my wife's laptop. It works just fine. I then tried the devices in my other USB ports and none of them are working. I can't even charge my iPod.

I have checked my Device Manager and everything seems to be functioning properly. I disabled and re-enabled all of the USB listings under Device Manager. Still nothing. I searched for updated drivers. All are up to date. I tried a couple of restore points and it they wouldn't function/complete correctly.

The only thing I did on my PC yesterday was update my iTunes to the latest version. I've had someone tell me that by unplugging my PC, I may have burned out my USB ports. Wouldn't that show as "device not working" under the Device Manager if that was the case? I have rebooted numerous times.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Please let me know what other information I need to provide, if any. Again, I'm no computer genius.

Thanks!

Go back to device manager, look for little yellow warning markers. If you see any uninstall those drivers and then go to the website and update them.
If there are no yellow warning markers, uninstall the mouse driver but leave mouse plugged in, then boot. Lets see if you get an updated driver.
If you have the DVD that came with the mouse, uninstall driver and use the DVD, again.

Uninstall all the drivers for the USB ports and then boot the computer, see if that works.

Thank you so much for your response.

My apologies. I forgot to include that there were no yellow warning markers in the Device Manager.

I don't have a disc for the mouse but I'll give that a try. Do you have an opinion on what I was told about all of the USB ports being blown? Is there another way to detect that other than in the Device Manager?

I will try your suggestion tonight for sure!
