Really Serious Problem

I've been having a little trouble with Windows Explorer. DEP(Data Execution Prevention) has been blocking my Norton Antivirus Software. To turn off DEP, one must go through to Advanced System Settings. However, whenever I open up anything Computer-related (files, etc.) "Explorer.exe(Windows Explorer)" stops working. From there I must restart my computer, therefore, I cannot change my DEP. Some friends told me it was because of a virus infection, and that I must get rid of it. But...I can't, since DEP blocks my antivirus, and everything I try to install.

This is really frustrating me. I would appreciate help.

If you have access to another ("clean") computer and a flash drive, please follow these instructions...

Step 1:
As you are downloading to a different PC and transferring via a flash-drive we need to make sure your flash-drive doesn't infect your clean machine:Please download Flash_Disinfector.exe by sUBs and save it to your desktop.

  • Double-click Flash_Disinfector.exe to run it and follow any prompts that may appear.
  • The utility may ask you to insert your flash drive and/or other removable drives. Please do so and allow the utility to clean up those drives as well.
  • Hold down the Shift key when inserting the drive until Windows detects it to keep autorun.inf from executing if it is present.
  • Wait until it has finished scanning and then exit the program.
  • Reboot your computer when done.
Note: As part of its routine, Flash_Disinfector will create a hidden folder named autorun.inf in each partition and every USB drive that was plugged in when you ran it. Do not delete this folder...it will help protect your drives from future infection by keeping the autorun file from being installed on the root drive and running other malicious files.

Windows Vista and Windows 7 users
Flash Disinfector is not compatible with the above Windows version.
Please, use Panda USB Vaccine, or BitDefender's USB Immunizer

Next, download DDS from one of these links and put it on the flash drive. (Take it to the infected computer)

Mirror 1 Mirror 2 Mirror 3
  • Disable any script blocking protection
  • Double click the dds icon to run the tool.
  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    1. DDS.txt
    2. Attach.txt <--- will be minimized in the task tray
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
Include the contents of both logs in your next post.
The scan will instruct you to post Attach.txt as an attachment.
