Hi! Recently my computer (a Gateway LX 6810 that's about three years old) has been running very slowly and freezing doing even the most simple of things (like going to My Documents, etc.) I cannot interact with the Desktop and must turn it off using the button on the monitor. When I try to boot the computer in Normal Mode, it spends several minutes at the "running green bars" screen before it goes to the enter password screen. After I enter my password it doesn't take very long for it to go to my desktop. Once I get there, I close out of the various welcome popups (Welcome screen, etc) and then try to do something and in a matter of minutes it freezes and I have to shut it down.
I've tried to boot in Safe Mode and it stops at crcdisk.sys and will not go any further. I attempted to do a System Restore to a date about a month ago using F8 as the system boots, but a popup comes up and says, "The Disk OS (C) has errors." and prompts me to scan and fix the disk. I've "scanned and fixed" twice with no results and it still won't let me do a restore.
As much as I hate to do it because I didn't back up a lot of my stuff before this happened, I'd like to restore the computer to Factory Settings. I can't find the place to do it in the System Restore panel that comes up when I hit F8 at the boot screen. Is there a specific button that I need to hit? Or a specific sequence?
I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium x64 bit.
