Transferring files to new PC

What is the best/easiest way to copy some of the programmes, folders and files from my Vista PC to a new Windows 7 PC? I don't think I can do it with my free Macrium back-up software. I'm trying to reduce the number of programmes I have to install/download again.

Download and use Windows Easy Trasnfer is awesome
Programs must always be reinstalled, unless you transfer everything with a system image, which is not done PC to PC.
