Computer CPU operation - shut down or keep running

Hey gang..

Computer: HP Media Center PC
OS: Vista x64 Home Premium Edition

I was just curious, should I leave my personal desktop PC running all the time instead of turning it off nightly? The PC's we have at work are a mixture of Linux and Windows workstations. Some have the Linux, some have the windows. The machines are left running 24/7. I haven't noticed any ill-effects of doing that.

If it's ok just to leave them running, is there regular hardware maintenance? i.e fan motor cleaning, etc.

Also, should I utilize the "sleep" mode instead of during it off?

Hey, i use sleep mode myself. I have been told that is best on the circuits versus the starting back up each time i want to use it. I do restart it once in a while tho.

There would be 0 difference "on the circuits" in sleep/hibernation or off.
Whats hard on the circuits is the on/off cycling of heat through the parts.

It use to be windows benifited from the shut down, but now adays it cleans itself.

I run Folding@Home so my systems run 100% cpu and gpu 27/7 and I get no issues at all. My reboots are usually update related.
