StartupRepairV2, won't boot

Hi there,
ACER laptop suddenly blue-screened with STOP 0X00000F4 and now won't do startuprepair either. It won't boot up in SafeMode and goes back to the blue-screen each time.
Any thoughts on what to try next? I don't have the install disks for Vista as I bought it second hand...

Hi there,
Thanks for the reply. I opened up Command Prompt and typed in the sfc /scannow . It first said: "Beginning system scan. This process will take some time. There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart Windows and run sfc again."

If I restart and run sfc again, it says the same thing. StartupRepair won't repair anything either at that point...

Any other suggestions?
Thanks!

I am back.. i did a chkdsk /f on mine and then cause it flashed so fast , results . I had to go to event viewer and check the winit log to see my results. You must have some quick eyes, anyways. Lets do the chkdsk /r now. It takes a little longer, but, i want to make sure we have done as much on hard drive as we can , hopefully we can get your software working soon. Post back please how this test went.

Ok it just finished. Same spiel as last time - 'Windows has checked the file system and found no problems.' etc etc..
Does that mean that its a hardware issue instead of a software issue?

Any thoughts on what to try next?
Thanks!

Well, we may be in a bind here, you do not have any OEM or Install disks as this computer is second hand, you may need to acquire one or the other so we can do a repair install. We have several tutorials available that show how, but, you have to have the cd/dvd to do it.
We definitely have a software issue, your hard drive seems fine.

Hi Yard Dog,
Ok good to know we are looking at a software issue, not a hardware one.
I looked into the fix boot mbr page and instructions. I typed: bootrec.exe and it gave me a list of options of what to do: /FixMbr, /FixBoot, /ScanOs, /RebuildBcd. I then typed in /FixMbr and it said "The operation completed successfully." Would this be fixed now? Or should I try the rest of the commands?
Thanks!

Btw I do have a Windows Vista Drivers disk as well as two Recovery Disks from my other laptop, a Toshiba Satellite..Would either of those do for a repair install?
I also just tried a restart and it still won't load windows...

Great, we may be getting somewhere, i almost forgot this one thing for you to try. See if you can boot up normally now, The one you chose is the one i would have tried first. Give it a shot at starting now and let me know how that works.

ok did some googling and I found this: ote Use the Bootrec.exe tool to troubleshoot "Bootmgr Is Missing" issue. If rebuilding the BCD does not resolve the startup issue, you can export and delete the BCD, and then run this option again. By doing this, you make sure that the BCD is completely rebuilt.

To do this, type the following commands at the Windows RE command prompt:
  • bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
  • c:
  • cd boot
  • attrib bcd -s -h -r
  • ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
  • bootrec /RebuildBcd
I ran through those commands and it said: Total identified Windows installations: 1. [1] C:\Windows. Add installation to boot list? Yes (Y)/No(N)/All(A): and I said y. 'The operation completed successfully'. I'm going to reboot now and see what happens...Fingers crossed!
