Solved Clearing RAM

Hey, this is probably a stupid question. I am pretty computer savvy, but I have never cleared my RAM before. I wanted to know if I were to clear my RAM would it interfere with other programs or processes. The main reason I want to clear my RAM is because I play a game on my computer that just eats up my RAM space. And it is killing my computer. And the game keeps crashing because there is not enough space in my RAM. So I want to know if clearing it would cause any problems or side affects.

Hello Jacob, and welcome to Vista Forums.

There's no need to ever have to manually clear your RAM in Vista. Vista will automatically clear anything not currently running from RAM automatically as needed.

You have 2GB of RAM, and some of that (ex: 512MB or 1 GB) is allocated for your NIVIDA GeForce Go 7300 graphics chip. That barely meets the bare minimum requirements for Vista alone. How much minimum RAM is required by the game?

I think the main problem is that your system just doesn't meet minimum requirements, and is being overloaded. :(

You could try cranking down the quality of the game's resolution and graphics for it to not use as much RAM if your computer meets the minimum requirements for the game.

In addition, check to make sure that you have a large enough page file set to help with the overflow when your RAM is being fully used up.

The game that I am playing is Minecraft. The game is already a low graphic game but, I have seen on many forums that it burns up memory to help render it's endless (literally endless) world. So do I just have to stop playing until my computer decides to erase the memory from it? Also the memory is not be taken up by the graphics card it is being taken up by java. Cause the game runs on java.

No, RAM/memory is cleared automatically as needed of anything not currently running.

A laptop uses a graphics chip instead of a separate card with it's on memory, so part of your RAM will be allocated to be used by only graphics chip. You may actually on have 1 to 1.5 GB of RAM available for Vista. You can check in the Performance tab in Task Manager to see how much RAM (Physical Memory) you actually have available.

How does your page file size look? You might see if increasing it may help some.

Make sure that you're using the latest version of Java, and that you've uninstalled ALL older versions
