Not to my knowledge. I used to print tons of stuff and this never became an issue. Now I print very little and the cartridges easily become out of date. Even ones I buy in stores like Staples or Office Max are sometimes outdated when purchased. Someone at Staples told me to take the cartridges out and put them in a plastic bag like a ziploc to prolong them when not in use. In my opinion, it's a terrible thing that the printer companies are doing to people. They sell you a multi-cartridge printer dirt cheap and then charge a fortune for each cartridge. Just one set of cartridges probably makes up for the reduced price of the printer in spades. Then they come up with this outdated stuff. They're making mega-profits on every printer. When I printed only in black and white, my laser printer was far more efficient and I didn't have to worry about outdated anything.
When I think about it, the error message comes up on my monitor and I think I tell it to ignore that it's outdated.
