hi i'm new.. just on here looking for some information.

I got a pc from a company in london and when it arrived I just plugged it in and away I went. At christmas there, I had a virus and phoned them, they advised I would have recovery cd in box etc... installed windows. however now I have a 30 day activation thing.

The serial number is not on the packaging that came with the machine, nor is it stickered on to my pc.

The serial number I entered was from my old pc.. Someone suggested I can find the original oem number but where?

Ive contacted Dell who advise that they can't help as it is not a dell machine, keyfinder finds the temp oem?

Can anyone help..

If Windows was pre-installed on the machine, the manufacturer is legally required to put a COA sticker on it - who is the manufacturer?

If there is no COA sticker on the case, then the machine is not licensed for Windows.

What does the reinstall disk that you used look like? It should be a hologram disk, if the machine is not from one of the big manufacturers. -

Its a yoyotech cooler machine, it did have windows etc on it. and on the system and maintenance page it states the following ;-

Manufacturer : Dell

My Computer

In that case the installation is non-genuine, and you were probably sold a counterfeit.

Please provide an MGADiag report, which will tell us if your machine was ever licensed for Windows.
To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
- **in your own thread**, please
Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine, but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

There is no SLIC table - which means that the Manufacturer is not a Direct OEM.
The motherboard is a Retail one.
If there is no COA stikcer, then the machine has never been licensed for Windows - and you were sold a machine with a counterfeit install.
You should complain (vigorously - with threats of police/trading Standards reports) to the vendor.
Does your receipt mention Windows *at all*?? I see from the website that Windows is an option on most systems - not installed by default.
If you didn't purchase a Windows as extra, then the chances are that you got what you paid for - nothing.

First, check your receipt - if it says that Windows is included, complain to the vendor.
If it doesn't, then you will have to purchase a Full Retail copy of Windows.
Since MS doesn't sell Vista any more, You'll need to purchase a Full Retail copy of Windows 7 - Home Premium would allow you to do an Upgrade install of your current installation (or a clean install).
Don't even think about trying to save money by buying on eBay or similar sites - most software there is counterfeit, and will also show as non-genuine after a while.

You also have the option of purchasing a Get Genuine Kit from MS, by following the links on the notification - this has the benefit of guranteeing that you get a genuine copy, but rhe drawback that the License you get is restricted to use on that machine, and cannot be moved to another, even if that machine dies 2 minutes after activating the new license - normal Retail copies can be moved at will (so long as only installed on one machine at a time).
