"Date modified" in Explorer is not preserved

I have an issue when copying files to my USB hard disk from my USB camcorder.
When the two are connected to my XP machine the "Date modified" in Explorer is preserved.
When the two are connected to my Vista machine the "Date Modified" in Explorer is set to the time of the copy.
*OS Vista Home Premium 32bit

I have ticked every "date" in Explorer and none of them are the original one from the Camcorder.
Here are the results of a recent example
XP/Camcorder date 1/12/2011 (dd/mm/ccyy)
Date 4/12/2011
Date Accessed 3/03/2012
Date acquired blank
Date archived blank
date completed blank
Date created 4/12/2011
Date last saved 2/01/2012
Date modified 2/01/2012
Date received blank
Date released blank
Date sent blank
Date taken blank
Date visited blank

Second related issue.
What is doubly annoying is the the file names use 0 to 9 and A to F.
I'm OK with this but again explorer (both XP and Vista) put A to F before 0 to 9 when I sort by file name.
e.g.
MOV00A
-- snip --
MOV00F
MOV001
-- snip --
MOV009
IS there a way to specify the sort so it goes 0 to 9 and the A to F?

For the sort order, put a zero in front of the numbers 1-9.

You only need to do that for the files numbered 1 to 9 so that all numbered file names are sorted in the correct order.

Just thinking about this. When you're in Windows Explorer, just click on "name" at the top of the file list to change the order from first to last or last to first.

I'm not sure why one of the other guys hasn't weighed in on the date problem. Does your camcorder have a disc that you can plug into a card reader? I wonder what the date stamps look like if you use that approach.

Hi Wither 3,

thanks for the feedback.

Hold the fort - I am mistaken - but there is still a bug/feature.
However it is in Movie Maker 6.0 Build 6002 SP2.

And the bug is.......
When I import the video files (which should READ and not UPDATE them - right?) WMM modified the date to NOW.

Now that I know this, I will make a second copy which can be imported and thrown away after making the DVD for the grannies.

However I still feel that when in file Explorer and clicking sort on the Name column it should sort 0 to 9 and then a to F.

Again thanks for the quick feedback.

I get the correct ordering in Windows Explorer. Tested it before I responded the first time.
