    resetting the administrator password on Vista

    I hope someone can help me. As I seem to be going round in circles!



    I've bought a Seagate GoFlex Home Free agent network storage system.

    I've managed to connect it up ok, but when I insert the cd to install the software for file transfer my laptop is asking me for an administrator password.

    My user account has admin rights but it doesn't seem to accept my password as a user (admin) account.

    I have looked at how to reset the admin account, and I seem to be led to possibly reinstalling the vista software from cd again. But I don't really know what effect this will have on my files (pictures/music/spreadsheets etc) and if this will lose them.

    So I guess my question is - what is the best way to gain Administrator access if I don't know my password.

    Another possibility is to right click on the setup.exe file and select "run as administrator".

    Change the user name to the one for your account.
