Solved creating recovery discs

I have a presario c700 notebook. I tried making recovery discs years ago, and it didnt work.

so I'm trying again but its not letting me make them. says its been done and is only allowed once per PC.

is there some way I can get around this so I can make the discs?

it's not a big deal if I can't, since I have the partition with the backup on it that I can restore from if needed. I just wanted to make the discs also if I could.

thanks for any help.

Welcome
This should answer your question
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/141820-create-recovery-disc.html
What you want to do however, is to download and make an image back up with Macrium Reflect. Then no matter what your problem you can use the image and be as good as new
http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx

The recovery disc link that I have given you will allow you to boot in the event of problems.
The Macrium will get you back in the event of a major disaster. It will bring you back to the point that you were the last time you updated Macrium

Hi,
Try this method!

For HP users that cant access Recovery Disks/ISOs. This can be for you.

Firstly, Windows Explorer will not display ALLSYSTEM files even though you have selected Show All. I'm sure they don't want novices to access all files just in case
smile.gif

This is bcoz of File Attributes. The File Attributes determine whether one can read/write/del or even view.

To VIEW/DELETE these "hidden" files is to use the Command Prompt - a slim down DOS enviroment.

I recall my DOS years, where I did everything plus more in DOS and XTREEGOLD. It was truly GOLD!

----
To find the hidden HPCD.SYS files in the RECOVERY partition and HDD is to:

1. Access Command Prompt
2. D:
3. DIR /AH - This displays ALL files with Hidden Attributes.
You should see the HPCD.SYS file.
4. Next you have to remove the Read Only System and Hidden Attributes in
order to delete.
5. type ATTRIB -R -A -S -H HPCD.SYS (This removes the required attributes
so you can delete or make changes.)
6. DEL HPCD.SYS

HARD DRIVE HPCD.SYS is the same.

1. C:
2. CD WINDOWS\SMINST
3. ATTRIB -R -A -S -H HPCD.SYS
4. DEL HPCD.SYS

KACHOW! You should be able to sucessfully perform the HP Recovery Disks!

looks like it may work though. it's telling me to insert a disc. never got that far before. It always said the discs were already created, can only create one set of recovery discs per PC.

it requires 2 dvds, and I only have 1 left, so I cant' try it until I get more. but looks like it's going to work. very cool. thanks. :)

Hi,

The second HPcd.sys file is created when the recovery disks have been completed & as you stated it never complete II guess the file was missed.

Glad you are getting somewhere.

Please note the excellent comments above regarding full system backup. These disks will only return the system to "Day one" & then you will have a lot of updating to do & (Without backups) you will loose your documents, pictures, etc.

Now that lottiemanision has helped solve the problem, be sure to download and make an image of your OS. If you do have an image and you have a problem, again, you will not have to go back to square one. You can reimage with all your stuff included.

good reminder.

so, I guess I need to use the program mentioned to image the current state of the hard drive? I was a little unsure how to proceed on that... never used that program before. need to take a closer look at it.
