Hi can someone help me please. When I try to delete anything instead of asking if I want it to go to the recycle bin it asks if I want to PERMANTENTLY delete it. Can anyone tell me how to fix this, this has only started about 2 weeks ago. Thank you.

Hello Paddy, and welcome to Vista Forums.
Using the tutorial below, double check to make sure that you have the Do not move file to the Recycle Bin. Remove files immediately when deleted box unchecked.
Recycle Bin delete immediately

Paddy,
Could you post a screenshot showing in the right pane of the following opened registry (regedit) keys (left pane) below? I'm thinking a policy may have been set doing this, and this will show which one it may be if so.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Im sorry I am new to all this and I can't get to terms with using screen shot I can only repeat that when I click on Properties in the Recycle bin it is empty except for the tick box for dialogue.

Ok, but without the screenshot of those registry locations, this will be a shot in the dark. The REG file below is what I believe may be the issue. You would just need to download it, right click on it, click on Merge, approve the merging, and restart the computer when finished to apply. This will remove the NoRecycleFiles registry entry that could be the cause.

If you like, go ahead and try the REG file I posted above to see if it may help. It will not hurt anything if it doesn't.
If it doesn't help, then I'll need screenshots of regedit.exe at the locations I posted above to be able to help determine what the cause may be. If you are unsure how to, you would run regedit, and expand to navigate to those path locations in the left pane.
