The Event Viewer quit functioning on my machine running Vista Ultimate; any ideas as to why and how to fix it. A window comes up that states:

‘Service Event Log was not found on computer.’

What would happen if I run a repair for my Vista Ultimate OSwith my Vista Home Premium disk since I have an actual disk for Home Premium andonly the recovery disk provided by H-Pfor Ultimate? Would I get the event viewer back?

There is no guarantee that it would work with either disc, although it should. Dont make me swear to this, but it is my understanding that all Vista CDs are the same, if from MS. Its the key that determines what system you put on your computer.
The HP DVD is probably an OEM and you cannot use that for your repair, in many cases. In addition the OEM is only one Edition and not all, like I mentioned above.
You may want to open a new user account and see if Event Viewer works in that account.
You may have disabled Event Viewer to turn it on

STEP 1>Open services.msc

STEP 2>Enable the following two services:-

SERVICE 1> WINDOWS EVENT LOG.
SERVICE 2> WINDOWS EVENT COLLECTOR.

STEP 3> Restart the computer, you are done

I did it and event viewer still isn’t there I only haveevent collector. I believe that I read somewhere what you wrote, that alllevels are on the disk but the key unlocks the level one purchased; I’m goingto try it. The worst I can do is create the need to perform a full recovery.

So is it possible for you to upload me a replacement EventViewer Service that I could install?
