Hello; I while ago my main profile (Vista home premium 64) became corrupted and I was not able to boot to windows. After booting in to safe mode I created a 2nd profile with full admin privileges and deleted the frist profile. All is well and the PC is running correctly. While looking at c:/users; I still see the old profile. What I would like to do is rename my current profile to the name of the old profile. How would I go about doing it? Is it as simple as deleting the old folder in c:/ Users and renaming my current folder?
Do not just rename a C:\Users\(user-name) folder. Doing so will give you a user profile error and log you into a temp user accout instead.
If you already deleted the old acount through "User Accounts" in the Control Panel, then you can safely delete it's C:\Users\(user-name) folder. If you have trouble deleting it from within Vista, then you can delete the folder in a command prompt at boot.
You have two options for renaming your newer user account.
To rename the user account through the Control Panel. This only changes the name you see in the Start menu and in User Accounts (Control Panel), and will not change the C:\Users\(user name) folder name.
If you wanted to change the name of the user profile everywhere except the locations in the blue NOTE box in the tutorial below, then the tutorial below can help show you how to. This will affect the user account's name for the C:\Users\(user-name) folder, Start Menu, Log on screen, Welcome screen, etc......
