    Resize Hiberfil.sys

Can Vista's Hiberfil.sys file be resized down to 75% ?

If so what is the proper command?

    From an elevated command prompt window without success I have tried;
    PowerCfg.exe /HIBERNATE /SIZE 75, and powercfg -h -size 75

    Both return "Invalid Parameters"

    All help appreciated

    Thanks

    Hello Glatzfront,

Double check to see if hibernate is enabled and that you have the hidden C:\hiberfil.sys file.

    powercfg -h -on

    Hope this helps for now,
    Shawn

It is definitely on, I use Hibernate frequently, several times a day usually. I can see the C:\hiberfil.sys file and it's size is 3.74 GB. (4 GB memory).

    Thanks for helping.

    Re: Resize Hiberfil.sys

Hiberfil.sys is the file where data that is in memory is stored on the hard drive when you put your computer into hibernation. It must be the same size as the amount of memory that you have to ensure that windows has enough hard drive space to go into hibernation. Therefore it can't be resized however hibernation can be disabled. How to disable and re-enable hibernation on a computer that is running Windows Disabling hibernation will eliminate that file.

Yep, it can be resized, but it is best to set it or leave it at 100%.

I've never tried or even considered it before.

At times disk space has become critical on the Vista partition and sometime soon I'll be resizing. I put Vista on a 40 GB partition which of course is to small. As a temporary measure I want 75%, like the default size in Win 7.

I'm also trying to reduce the size of the Page file but the Mini dump wont hold for long before it reverts back to the kernel dump, don't know why??? The way I use my computer I don't think I'll have any issues with smaller Hiberfil and Page files. Moving the Page file might cause some loss of performance so it is second to the smaller size.
