Can't find any .bat files on my computer

I had a problem with my firewall wanting me to allow batch files for a toolbar I'm running. The toolbar developer said to allow certain files, one being all .bat files. I found all of the other files in the toolbar folder, so I searched for the .bat files.

Well, according to Vista, I have NO .bat files ANYWHERE on my system. I've searched the entire C: drive, including all the files, and no .bat files.

And yes, I did click to search hidden files, etc.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I'm sorry, but I can't give any more info on the toolbar because it's used explicitly for a place I work, and I had to sign a non-disclosure agreement. It's a toolbar you use to log into and out of the site that enables them to track your work and your time.

Yes, I tried re-installing. The toolbar works, no problem, and I wouldn't have a problem with Comodo if I could find the .bat files I am supposed to list as safe. They have to be on the computer somewhere. Why wouldn't Vista be able to find them, or ANY .bat files for that matter. You can't tell me there are no .bat files on my computer.

I've searched the entire hard drive for *.bat and NOTHING comes up. I can search for any other extension, .mp3, .exe, .cmd....anything...and they come up, but not .bat.

    OK,

It sounds as though these files are stored on the "Works server" & not your computer.

I have no idea what you're talking about. I don't have a "works server," whatever that is. All I have is a laptop.

Hello dsa2591 and welcome to the forums

Let's have a look to see if there are any .bat files on your computer

    System Look

Please download SystemLook from one of the links below and save it to your Desktop.
    • Double-click SystemLook.exe to run it.
    • Copy the content of the following codebox into the main textfield:
      Code:
      :filefind
      *.bat
    • Click the Look button to start the scan.
    • When finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan. Please post this log in your next reply.
Note: The log can also be found on your Desktop entitled SystemLook.txt

    Tom

Re: Can't find any .bat files on my computer

As I thought, there are many .bat files on my computer, but it doesn't seem to be able to find the one I need, which is supposed to be inside a FF add-on toolbar. Oh well, I'll just have to disable Comodo and use Windows firewall while I'm working there.

P.S. I used it to search specifically for that file and it didn't find it. I have no idea why Comodo can find it and nothing else can. Is there such a thing as a .bat file that is created as it is needed? According to the toolbar tech team, there are several .bat files under different numbers, and we are supposed to allow them all with a wildcard where the numbers are. I even searched for one of the numbers, and nothing. It is truly a "hidden" file.

Would you mind taking a screenshot of the Comodo screen indicating the presence of this file and uploading it for us please?

SystemLook will display files with any attributes, be it read only, hidden or system. It won't, however, show files that are hidden by rootkits etc., don't worry, I don't think that you're infected, but some software can use rootkit like technologies to hide files. I'm hoping this isn't the case in something as simple as a FF toolbar.

What is the name of the toolbar?
