I can't get past black screen and ntfs.sys file corrupt or missing

 Hi and thanks first, sorry if I'm in the wrong area, but I've spent a week going at it with my hp dv6704nr laptop, that I thought I had tuned and tweaked to the best of my knowledge or should I say you guys knowledge amongst others online and just when I said finished BAM! my 2yr old walks up and slaps the keyboard....so after a nono run along little padawan the nightmare begins, and have a feeling it's simple fix. I had only recently downloaded spotmau and made a backup with the bootsuite but forgot to do the windows backup:cry:....for some reason I can't get past black screen and ntfs.sys file corrupt or missing...

I have tried safe mode but it won't allow, heck I've tried just about everything here, but I know I've missed something, and yes I do not have the factory install disc:o as my wife purchased this piece of %$#@ at bestbuy back in '08....money is all tied up and this was my only means of entertainment outside playing with the kids and wife:zip:...sorry for the gaziillion post as I'm sure it's been done so...is there a way to fix this via the recovery disc I made from here that allows me to get to the help page but have no restore points? Also none of the mbr, windows, etc options in bootsuite seem to help....it shows the vista home premium is there along with c: ...geesh i feel stupid? Help please, my time on this borrowed lappy is limited, but for sure am ready to participate in the forums and learn as well as help when/ if my own is back up.....and yes a donation is due, regardless if i get up and running because you guys have helped alot people and that is note worthy.

Tried a burned .iso copy and just loads, used poweriso, imgburn, umm NT and another free one i cant remember, all on dvd+r's memorex...loaded drivers i could come across from the recovery disc, and it gets tiring looking thru file after file to try and match up to the mbr, etc. from bootsuite as I have yet to find a file to match to load period. Can u say newbie from :devil:ell

anything?...searching around for something to try....maybe a ntfs.sys file that can be loaded via disc?...Also should I be trying a 'FUll' Vista instead of just the .iso?

and loaded a Windows 7 .iso but just loads, and yes tried changing the boot order but doesn't seem to matter either way :(

Heck, at this point though i don't want to lose everything I am willing to do what I see is a clean install around the boards? Could someone post the proper link/s for me here to use

Vista home premium 32 bit.....will gladly go to windows 7...I'm done at this point and by that I mean my panic disorder is setting in for past couple days and it's been awhile :(

No hurry just get your posts up and then you should be able to receive private messages
At the moment you are not able to.
The live cd list I posted the link to is for you to pick one to use to access your files with
If you use a usb the link is there to make it bootable
I use Linux Mint when I fix peoples computer and it works well without taking up to much space Once installed I select all files go to properties and tick hidden then I know all files that are showing are from the computer I am fixing.
You will have to enter the bios to change the boot order to use the usb
You can also burn the live cd to a disc and select the disc or removable media as the first boot option.
To boot it must be a Live cd.
Take your time and report back.
I normally only check this site once a day as I have to travel for about 30mins to get to an internet connection. I live way out in the country at the moment.

well ubuntu loads but has several screen layers making it hard for me to choose any options much less language...haven't decided on wether to put the mint on a usb or dvd as it has gotten late, I will probably put that on dvd unless it will fit the 1gig stick as I want to reserve the 8gig i have for other purposes you may have for me or otherwise needed. I surely hope to get my laptop back up and running as i stated I had completed everything i needed for myself and the wife(even fixed the cd/dvd read/writer that hp told me needed replaced) and my luck struck like a lightning bolt on a cool evening when all is settled. Named my youngest after that(Carolina Breeze)...and she breezed on thru and showed daddy not everything is a breeze ;) lol

(off topic)By the way my father was stationed in New Zealand back in late '69 early '70, said it was beautiful country.

Another post for the counter, the lappy im borrowing is the dreaded mother in law's and she's griping about wanting it back after recently paying to have it cleaned! Now that part I know I could have done for free, on top of adding a better AV than microsoft essentials as I tried it in the past and come up short on some trojans/virus'... After hours of running thru spotmau's bootsuite I just couldn't find a file to recover from?!..and I assume disc recovery wouldn't help as my install disc was probably used over n over by the guy that suckered my wife from obtaining it, thus the product key not being of use as it were? idk....but upped my post number with a tad of info ;)

Jump on the mint at first wake after breakfast...

ok tried ubuntu on dvd as well as mint and both didn't work, put systemrescuecd on 1 stick and ran all it had to no fix, tried using the same sysrecovercd installer for ubuntu and mint but said was missing a file, so im now gonna attempt using lili after making sure my usb sticks are clean. Also I noticed going into bios "non factory" vista as opposed to factory setting before? Ohh...here goes. Maybe one of the programs if not mint will work, as far as saving my files idk anymore, not sure if i care at this point worried that the thing is just dead, and the mother in law is coming this evening for this lappy! Sucks to be me huh:huh:

Use the Ubuntu or Linux to access the user folder and save your files that is all you need it for.
Burn the ISO I sent you a link to with something like Image Burn
Enter the bios of the computer you want to reinstall on and change the boot order to removable media or cd/rom and put the disc in and restart the computer you should see what it says in this tutorial from Brink

Well I'm slow getting to this due the nature of home life, kids come first of course..I try and try to get to this, and I think I have a chance this morning(here it's morning) to give it a go.
1. I will be grabbing my product ID
2. Get a copy of my activation key
3. Using Imgburn or PowerIso to create a bootable DVD or try using a usb activator
4. I will be following Brinks instructions and how to do a clean install

I will report back how it goes, and also detail as to how and if it works.
A much need thanks needs to go out to all that have contributed since the beginning of this site
and SPECIAL THANKS goes out to Senior Member "ilikefree" for responding and pointing me in the right direction.
If his and the forum help doesn't do the trick then it's gotta be a replacing of the hard drive or something I over looked. Again thanks in advance, but I'm not there yet...strappin in my seat and thanks mom for watching the kids abit:D HERE GOES....
