Temporary Files on C: Drive

Hi all,

I am trying to free up some space on my laptop and have discovered that there are a number of Temp Files on the Root C: Drive that are taking up approx. 25gig of space. Does anyone know what they might be and if it is safe to delete them? I have tried running CCleaner but they are still there. I have attached a screen shot of the files.

Many Thanks

Andy.

Download ccleaner, its free. Use to clean the temp files and then use once a week.
Its name use to be crap cleaner, but changed due to complaints. I use it on a regular basis.

Reading your post, again, I notice that you tried ccleaner. You may want to try the stronger temporary file cleaner. It is not to be used on a regular basis, like CC, but it will do the job .

To be on the safe side, run a full antivirus scan and download and run a full scan with malwarebytes to make sure that you do not have additional problems.

Hi Richard,

Many Thanks for your reply. I did try CCleaner but this did not remove these particular files. I only recently downloaded it and must admit I did not look at or change any of the 'default' setting so it may be that it can be configured differently to catch them (perhaps because they do not appear to have a .tmp file extension?) Still, I'll take another look and post back.

Cheers,

Andy.

Andy,
I noticed that you did use ccleaner after I posted. Read my additional comments.

Weakest part of my computer is the graphics chipset.
    Only ever used a laptop.

If you hover your mouse pointer over the file name, does it give a clue as to what it is? What if you right click on a file and select properties? You could also try double clicking on one.

OK, quick update. Neither CCleaner, Temp File Cleaner nor Revo Uninstaller (tnx for the tip though ilikefree) have removed these files. In answer to your question wither 3, I have managed to discover what the files are related to by looking at the date they were created - they are all created when by backup program (Laplink DiskImage) performs its weekly backup (to an external hard drive). Any thoughts as to whether these can be safely deleted? It seems like a large hog of disc space otherwise.

Regards,

Andy.

I don't know anything about laplink so I suggest you ask at their website.

Sometimes backup programs use those kind of files for a restore operation.
