So about a few months ago, I was cleaning up my computer and I was deleting programs from the control panel that I don't use anymore. I think I may have accidentally deleted something that shouldn't have been deleted. Now everytime I try to open any of my documents or pictures, I get the message: "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail". So I opened up the event viewer and I all i see is: MMC could not create the snap-in. The snap-in might not have been installed correctly.CLSID: FX:{b05566ad-fe9c-4363-be05-7a4cbb7cb510}.
Also, when I try to open Microsoft Word, I get the following message: "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel". I tried to reinstall Microsoft Word but there was no change.

I have no idea how to fix any of this, so if anyone could help.. I would greatly appreciate it. All I really want is to be able to open my docs and pics again. I have Windows Vista Home Premium Edition, 64-bit operating system, Service Pack 2.

I figured I'd post the same question here, seeing as how microsoft answers was sucha big help...
I tired everything they recommended. Even in safe mode, I was still getting the same errors, and the link they gave me suggested that I download the microsoft visual c++ components, but that didn't work either. So I figured I'd try another system restore, and to my surprise, everything is working now. Who knew it was that simple? :/
