I'm sure that it will power-on and show you the loading screen, but you can expect to crash and recieve a BSOD in a few seconds.

Hello yvesj,
Yep, it should still boot, but you'll get a "no HDD detected" type error.![]()
thank you .
but i don't want it to be conected to my monitor .
just turn it on and look at lighting .
blue fans .etc.etc
but i screw up any thing doing so

Nope. It will not not mess anything up. It'll light up, and that'll be about it until you finish it.![]()
I wonder if you set up the CMOS to boot from the USB drive as the first option, that it would let you run without a hard drive. Of course, you'd need to have a complete OS installation on the USB drive. But if there's a mandatory check for a boot sector on C: as a core part of Vista and W7 boot up functionality, then it wouldn't be possible.

thank this what i wanted to know .
this is the case i have and i have to order 2 [60 mm] led fan for the back and some laser light and maybe a few 88 m led fan so i have to turn it on to see what i need so it be looking good when am done with it .
Take a live CD (e.g. a Linux OS), change the BIOS boot order to boot from the CD/DVD drive and off you go. Same with a live Linux USB stick.
This is an easy example you can try: Recover files from Windows hard disk using Puppy Linux | help.artaro.eu
