USB Ports and Mouse Recognition

Vista 32 bit Home Premium

I am having difficulty in getting USB ports to recognise my mouse (Problem occured around a week ago).

I have looked in 'Device Manager' under 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers' and note that 'Generic USB Hub' has a yellow triangle.

Properties tell me ' This Device Cannot Start (Code 10)'.

Driver is up to date

If I uninstall the USB hub driver, then reboot will Vista re-install the driver automatically (mouse connected) Will I need the Vista DVD disk at hand? Is this the best thing to do?

What does the Generic USB Hub do?

UPDATE

When I initially start my machine, I get the BIOS screen that invites me to login (to start Vista). The mouse pointer may be frozen. If I re-start, the mouse may stay frozen; if I re-start the machine again, the mouse may become normal. When I login and look at the Generic USB Hub in Control panel the yellow triangle has gone. The next time I re-start the problem may recur. I mention all this in the hope that it may mean more to you than it does to me.

Thanks

Why are you getting a message to start Vista? It should boot automatically.

I think he has a multiboot option at startup.

Even though you haven't told me, I think that you've just done an installation of vista or other windows.

Do you have a copy of your previous drivers? if not, just un-install the driver at device manager and then install the new one from a download.

Device Manager > go to the tree > update driver > search for browser on my computer > browse to the folder containing the driver.

Thank you for responding.

I must have explained the problem very badly.

Vista boots without problem.

However, sometimes the Generic USB Hub will not start. I have looked in 'Device Manager' under 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers' and note that 'Generic USB Hub' has a yellow triangle. This is the problem.

Properties tell me ' This Device Cannot Start (Code 10)'.

Driver is up to date (from searches).

The UPDATE I referred to above is my observation that relates to the operation/non-operation of the mouse. Vista does boot.

If I uninstall the Generic USB Hub driver (via Control panel, Device Manager, USB Controllers) ), then reboot will Vista re-install the driver automatically (mouse connected) Will I need the Vista DVD disk at hand? Is this the best thing to do?

Sometimes rebooting solves the problem!

If you reboot, while on the internet, it should reload the driver if it is uninstalled. Likewise, if you uninstall you most likely can get the new driver through the device manager. Start with a system restore point, just in case.
Make sure that your windows updater is set to install without notifying.

If I uninstall the driver will I lose control of the mouse?

Windows update automatically at 00:00.

PS. Rerputation box is not working!

First, set the system restore point.

Then follow Richard's instructions. It should use the default mouse driver when you reboot.
