Hi,

My Vista system got virus attack and I think I have removed the virus. But, on the desk top, the icons' and the folder windows' position and size was changed. I then organized the icons' and the folder windows' position and size. However, after restart my Vistar, it just re-organized any thing on the desktop.

Will you kind enough to tell me what I can do?

When you say reorganized do you mean just shifted from where you put them?
If so right click on a blank part of your desktop and hover on view. Un-check auto arrange

That is perhaps a little bit too difficult for me :) Can I try an easier one first:

If I click the blank part of the desktop and View, I can see it selected Medium Icons. I tried to change to select Classic Icons but it will be change back to Medium Icons after restart my Vista.

My Vista cannot remember many other settings for desk top as well after the virus attack, but I guess if I can solve the problem above (I am not familia with Vista, I hope this is easier one), I can hopefully solve the others.

I would suggest you to try these steps and check the issue status.
1. Right click on your desktop
2. Click on "View"
3. Uncheck "Align icons to grid."

Tell me if that worked.

My Computer

Forlowing your suggestion, I did:
1. Right click on desktop
2. Click on "View"
3. Uncheck "Align to grid."
4. Move Recycle Bin to another place
5. Click "View", change "Medium Icons" to "Classic Icons"
Then, restart my Vista......the Recycle Bin goes to original place, the icons back tobe Medium Icons and "Align to grid" is checked again!

One thing forgot to report:
I have tried to restore my Vista to the point of a month ago (my problem happened only a few days).
However, it cannot resolve my problem.

Check if you can experience the issue in ‘Safe mode’; if safe mode works fine then set the computer to ‘Clean boot’ state to check for software conflicts.
Start your computer in safe mode.
Keep the computer on a clean boot and check for the issue status. If everything works fine after a clean boot, you can infer that some third party services are causing the problem. Proceed with the remaining steps to pin-point out the third party service. After you figure out the problem causing program, you may have to update or install a higher version of the program, if you seldom use that software you can consider uninstalling it.

My Computer

Hi Febpiz,

I have just tried:
Restart into safe mode
View->change Medium Icons to Classic Icons
Move the Recycle Bin to another place
Restart to safe mode
Icons back to Medum Icons and Recycle Bin back to original place
(Do you think this is the behavious in safe mode?)

How sure are you that you got all of the virus out? Personally I would back up important data and reformat to alleviate all issues here because it sounds like this might not be the only one to come.

If you have a Vista disc, you can first try a Windows Repair to see if that helps any, but it sounds like you have damaged OS files that may be needed to keep things in check.

I have tried to check virous but until now without success.

I noticed my problem exists in both safemode and normal mode BUT no problem for another user account in both modes! Following some instruction
Fix a corrupted user profile
I am trying to repair my user account. However, I need your help in step 6 of the instruction:

6. Select all of the files and folders in this folder, except the following files:
Ntuser.dat
Ntuser.dat.log
Ntuser.ini

What I can find similar files in my folder are:

ntuser.dat (DAT File)
ntuser.dat.LOG1 (LOG1 File)
ntuser.dat.LOG2 (LOG2 File)
NTUSER.DAT{3a......}.TM.blf (BLF File)
NTUSER.DAT{3a......}.TMContainer000.....1.regtrans-ms (REGTRANS-MS Files)
NTUSER.DAT{3a......}.TMContainer000.....2.regtrans-ms (REGTRANS-MS Files)
ntuser (Configuration Settings)

Can you tell me which files I should not select?
