contents of C:\SwSetup directory

Hello.
I want to move some files from my C:\ drive to get some space.
I have noticed many large files in a directory called C:\SwSetup.
Judging by the "date accessed" information, it would appear that these
files and directories date back to the original set-up and installation of various
pieces of software on my system.
Would there be any harm in me moving them to another drive?

For example: C:\SwSetup\RoxioCB9 and C:\SwSetup\sp38361

Does software access information in ".cab" files in these directories when in runs?

I assume I will have to everything back if I want to 'uninstall' any of the related applications?

Thank you so much for any help. I hope I am posting in the correct forum.

Generally its unsafe to play with the system settings, if you've done more than one installation on this computer, run a disk cleanup and see if theres any space in the "previous installations" check box.

If you still want to continue with this, SAVE A BACKUP, before you do anything else.

Thanks. I don't understand how this is a "system setting" change. I ran disk cleanup before putting up this post. I will try it again and look for the stats you mentioned. Please tell me: What are the ".cab" files? How are they used? They have very old access dates. I can't find a definitive answer on the web.

Welcome
Everyone, those that may be thinking of changing files that they are not sure of and those that just want to avoid potential problems, should back up their hard drive once a month at least. Why not download Macrium Reflect and back up your hard drive to an external hard drive and in the event that you change something that you should not, you can easily restore to good times.
I back up my OS twice a month, right befor updates and then two weeks later.

.Cab files are compressed files so that they will not take up unnecessary space.
If you do not know the purpose of any specific file, its best not to change it. Best just to change your personal documents if you must change something.

Hello Tom and welcome to the forums

Good name choice :p

The folder C:\SwSetup contains the installer packages for the software that came preinstalled on your computer :) It will also contain drivers for your computer, but these can be downloaded from the manufacturer's site if needed in future.
