    Unable to change windows Vista Wallpaper

    Hello
    Guys spent hours mucking around with registry entries from lots of forums on how to enable the change of Win Vista wallpaper. My elderly mother wants her pets on on when I connect across on LogmeIn the facility to do it is not allowing me to do it.

    I can change solid color easily but image or themes it is not allowing it please help me guys



    To assist please see registry entries I have noticed in No4 NoActiveDesktop I have tried deleting this 2 times but comes back on bootup!!

    Hello Thorrrr, and welcome to Vista Forums.

    In addition, you might use the find and find next feature in the registry to search for any NoChangingWallpaper and No Changing Wall Paper DWORD values. If any of these DWORD values are found, delete them. I'm not sure why your's would have spaces in it, since it's not suppose to and sohuldn't work if it did.


    When finished, restart the computer to apply.

    Hi guys I tried the link to th eold post but the fix which was

    There may be some Policies in place. To determine that, use the following steps:

    Press WinKey + R to bring up the Run dialog.
    Type the following command (single line, no line wrap) and press ENTER

    cmd /k reg query "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System" /s

    Copy the Command Prompt output and include in your reply.

    This does nothing for me in my system!!!!!

    I also tried the registry merge he mentions no use there is something blocking me.

    What edition of Vista do you have?

    Are you joined to a domain?

    Do you have any sort of all-in-one tweaking type program installed that may have a setting blocking this?

    In addition, double check using the tutorial below to see what group policy settings you may have enabled if any. The Local Group Policy Editor is only available in the Vista Business, Ultimate, and Enterpise editions though.

    It is on my mothers laptop an Acer

    No software other than CCleaner and a load of crap Acer shoves on.

    Hi cannot find the Policy user interface it a basic Vista Home addition.

    One more thing to check. In Ease of Access Center, double check to make sure that the Remove background images (where available) box is unchecked.

    Hi first thing I did see here looks like I am stuffed as she lives 200 miles away I remote into her machine .

    Odd. You might have her create a new user account, log on to it, and see if she is able to change the desktop background for it. This will help let us know if it's an issue with her original account or a system wide issue.
