Downloads instantly being deleted

Hello all. First time on these forums. I've developed in an issue with downloading. I've tried downloading a multitude of files on chrome, firefox, and IE. Once the download is complete (if it even bothers to download instead of instantly finishing the download) I get the an error message that says "Windows cannot find C://etcetcetc, make sure you typed the name correctly and try again."

I haven't done anything out of the ordinary lately to cause an issue, so I'm at a loss on how to fix it. Really hope some one can shed some light on the situation.

It sounds like there is a firewall that's preventing access to temporary files or wherever the download is trying to be saved to. It could be your anti-virus program. Have you tried disabling it before you do a download?

I've completely disabled my firewall, doesn't seem to help. I don't use any anti-virus programs. I've had more issues with them than with any viruses I've received. (which I've actually had significantly less of since removing the anti-virus stuff)

You've not seen as many viruses because you don't have an anti-virus program to tell you about them. Microsoft Security Essentials is free and doesn't interfere constantly with operations.

Is it possible for you to get the exact error message for a download and post it here?

I have the same problem. I have removed virus scans and remove firewall but downloads are all deleted. After search i found info to change a setting in firefox and now i can only download through firefox by setting
browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone to false in about:config. in firefox
It has helped but not solved the whole problem

What is the complete error message that you get?

The issue with the computer regarding the download must be different.

Try the following methods and check:
Method 1:
Step 1: I would suggest you to boot in safe mode with networking and check if you face the same issue.
To boot into safe mode refer to the link provided below:
a) Restart the computer.
b) Start tapping the F8 key.
c) You will get advanced boot option window.
d) Select the option “Safe mode with Networking”
Refer to the link provided below for more information on safe mode:
Start your computer in safe mode

Step 2: I would recommend you to place the computer in clean boot.

You can start Windows Vista or Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts. The following article describes how to troubleshoot problems in Windows Vista or in Windows 7 by performing a clean boot:

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows Vista or Windows 7
Note: Put the computer to normal as mentioned in Step 7 from the KB article.

If the issue doesn’t persists when the Computer is in clean boot or while in the Safe Mode with Networking, then the issue is confirmed to be caused by a certain non-Microsoft applications.

Method 2:
Run a virus scanner and check:

Virus are known to cause these issues. Scan your computer from Microsoft Safety Scanner, which helps to get rid of virus, spyware, and malicious software.

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner expires after 10 days from the date of installation.
Note: Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.
