HP J4680C Printer Will Not Work with USB

Hello.. first time here..

I have Vista Home Premium 32bit and when I install my HP J4680C it does not recognize the USB connection.. I can make copies with my printer but that is where it stops.

Printer does print when I use a utility to test it.. :shock:

  1. Installed and re-installed the printer software with original CD
  2. Installed printer s/w using new file from HP
  3. I have used 2 HP utilities to no avail.
  4. Used Numerous USB cables and still it won't print

My other PC(Acer) will print and no issues.:)

I am not getting any error codes of any type.

BTW: HAVE SEARCHED THIS SITE..Could not find a Solution that works for me.

What is the computer model that you own?

Is it the only USB device that is not getting recognized by the computer?

When you connect the printer to the computer check in device manager if you have printing support.

To go to device manager click start -> right click computer-> click manage-> click on device manager -> click (+) Universal Serial Bus Controller-> check if there is USB printing support.

In case if there is a message for User Account Control then click on yes so that you check the information.

Please post back with the results.

  • Sorry Not Sure what you mean..but the s/w loads and when it asks for the USB to be connected I do it... but it does not get recognized. It states it will add an icon to the desktop so I can add the printer later

  • This is another problem I can't see my devices, they disappeared.. :eek:

BTW: Printer was working on 9/15/2012, but SCAN was not, so I tried to fix scan issue by reloading s/w. It didn't work so I then removed all the printer s/w and used CD to install... Tha was when this USB issue started.

HI... I will try the links you sent...

---- I put a doc on the glass and make a copy..

2. Was the printer working before on the same computer?
---- Yes it was working as of approx 9/15... The scan function did stop working, that was when I decided to uninstall and re-install the printer.

3. Did you try connecting the printer into different USB port?
---- Yes..I have 4 USB ports ..

4. Are you able to use other USB devices on the computer?
----I have a external HD which works in all 4 USB's

Hi,
We can try the following steps to check if the device manager has any information:

Click start and type services.msc, hit <enter>, then continue at the UAC prompt to open the dialog. Locate the Plug and Play service and double click it. Set the startup type to automatic, and restart the service if it's not currently running. Apply/ok your way out and restart the system normally.

If the service is already started, try stopping the service and restarting the service by rebooting.
