Video capture problem

Has anyone else had problems getting a video capture device to work on Vista 64bit OS? I have tried 2, and no luck. They work great on a laptop running Vista 32bit. My computer installs everything just fine, it will recognize the video capture device, but will not display and video or audio? I'm totally stumped...

Hi Jlid,

We need to check if the device has 64-bit drivers available, for that I require information for the make and specification of the video capture device.

Please revert back for clarification.

Silly question but "would 64-bit have problems with a program that a 32-bit system does not have"??

A 'silly question' doesn't exist :) If you're learning from it then it doesn't sound silly to me!

x64 Windows is different to x86 Windows in quite a few ways - one of which is that it disables the loading of unsigned drivers. This is the reason that people say that x64 Windows is more secure than x86 Windows as it isn't possible to load a malicious driver without a signature (which they don't have unless they steal one -read here). As far as I know, ZeroAccess is the first kernel mode rootkit to operate on x64 systems as it bypasses the restrictions enforced by Windows hence allowing it to have it's malicious driver loaded.

Although x86 programs can run on x64 computers, their drivers won't be able to load if they're not signed so you might run into problems with the program - sometimes it will run, but with reduced functionality (my FurMark for example) and other times it just won't run at all. Popular software will either not be dependent on drivers, or will have a x64 version. So this is something to investigate for this thread :)

Any questions, give me a shout.

Tom

Hi Jlid,

We can try few things one of them would be to repair, please follow below mentioned steps to repair:
1. Unplug the Roxio Capture Device and follow these steps exactly:
2. Ensure that to turn off the Anti-Virus, Firewalls, Registry Cleaners, etc. and insert your Roxio Disc (download version - run Install)
3. Accept the offer to Check for Updates (this is for Roxio, not Windows)
4. When you reach the screen where Repair is offered, select that.
5. When the Repair competes, turn your AV & Firewall back on and reboot.

If this does not work, uninstall the complete program and disconnect the device. Restart the computer and start the installation of the program.

Please post back with the results.
