It is not due to degredation, as it is listed as false.
There can be multiple reasons for this to happen.
If it is happening on a clean install, has all the updates been installed?
Have you ran a Hard Drive check program? Is there any noise coming from your HD?
Have you ran a full Anti virus check on your HD?
By a clean install I take it as the HD was formatted prio to installing the OS?

Check the bios for any changes, upon turning your machine on press the del key. The beep is normal to tell you that the bios has posted OK.
Have a look at your prefetch files. These files all like to load with vista.
Have a look at services that all want to run at start up.
Have you had a look at devcie manager to see if there are any devices not listed, some of the mobo drivers need to be manually installed on some systems.

1 minute wait is not terribly long. You have a fresh install, so there's no virus or other aberration to account for. If you really want to boost things, get yourself an SSD drive. It'll make a world of difference. I have a hybrid drive (SSD+HD) and my cold boot went from 5 minutes to just over 1 minute.

no sorry i meant its taking a minute on top of what it used to take to boot.

it used to : beep - black screen white writing (where i can enter f2 or del)
then microsoft loading bar then welcome screen then desktop....
whole process used to take 1 min

now it goes : beep (no signal/picture to monitor for 1 min maybe more) then black screen white writing (where i can enter f2 or del)
then microsoft loading bar then welcome screen then desktop....

the no signal/picture bit never used to happen before clean install? i thought performing the clean install and getting rid of acer bloatware would if anything speed it up not slow down?

any ideas info advice greatly apreciated.

thanks

Did you do the clean install from the disk that came with the computer or another version of Vista?

To check your device drivers click on start, right click on computer and choose manage.
Click on OK when asked if you want to continue.
This will bring up your computer management screen where you can check your event viewer, device manager and serices and applications as well as other things.
click on device manager to see if there are any red crosses or yellow triangles.

All your device drivers are fine, I think the only reason why it is taking a little longer is because it is a retail version, rather than the version that was built in by the supplier.

hi roy

i think i have solved the issues

i forgot that i had created a driver back up of all my working drivers using DRIVER MAX (as advised by richc46) before i performed the OS re-install

but forgot to use it after re-installing the os and proceeded to get the drivers from manufacturer websites and install them myself (not sure if i had installed in wrong order or something) but were causing problems.

so i remembered the driver max back up. i then used that to restore my drivers that i had backed up to usb drive using driver max
i didnt uninstall the currently installed driver 1st i just restored the driver max back up over what i had

and seems to have done the trick "so far so good"

DriverMax - free driver download program for Windows XP & Vista

thanks again for your help on this one and thanks to everyone else that helped also

Billy, when you do get these issues resolved, it's a good idea to go back to the respective topic and check the "mark resolved" button. :)
