Solved Explorer running very slow, and unable to System restore

Hi,

My internet explorer is running very slow and when I try to use system restore to an earlier point it always fails. I tried it in Safe Mode and it still didn't work.

Google Chrome works fine but I have all my favourites saved under Explorer. I've also tried MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware to clean up the computer, but still no luck.

Can someone suggest another approach?

Thanks for your help
Rob

Hi Rob,

Try to run the Microsoft Fix it for IE freezing issues and check if it works. Fix Internet Explorer add-on problems when IE hangs or freezes

Also run the Microsoft Fix it for performance issues. Fix Internet Explorer issues to make IE fast, safe and stable

If you want to use Google Chrome, you can transfer the favorites from IE to chrome, please follow the steps in the below mentioned link: How do you import your Internet Explorer favorites into Google Chrome

Also, please provide the exact error message that you receive while performing system restore?

Please post the results.

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately IE is still running very slowly. I did however transfer all of my IE favourites to Google Chrome and am using that as my browser.

Thank you
Rob

Hi Rob,

In case if you want to use Internet Explorer, disable add-ons on Internet Explorer and check the performance of the Internet Explorer, here is the link to disable add-ons: Internet Explorer add-ons: frequently asked questions

If issue persists, check the version of Internet Explorer installed in the computer, here is the link to check the version of IE: Find out which version of Internet Explorer you're using

Then downgrade the Internet Explorer to a lower version and check the performance: How to Delete Multiple Wireless Connections in Windows | eHow.com

^ I second Madhur's suggestion, about downgrading IE to an earlier version.

Sometimes plug-ins get installed that do not uninstall properly, leaving you with a problematic browser. This could be the case if you disable all plug-ins and the performance problem persists.

In Vista, IE is not handled like other user installed programs. You must go to "View Installed Updates" and then find "Windows Internet Explorer" to uninstall it. Vista will roll back to the previous version. You can then uninstall that one if it was also an update. Once you've done this, you can then try installing the latest IE9 again. Refreshing the files could very well clear up the performance issue, which shouldn't exist. I have 4 different browsers installed and performance is about the same across all of them.

Glad to hear you got it resolved, Rob. I have found that Adobe Shockwave Flash does not work consistently across all browsers. In some, it'll lag while in others it'll fly... and this can change depending upon the version. Adobe is frequently making updates to the plug-in, so you might be fine for a few months then suddenly the plug-in stops working the way it did previously (and not in a desirable way either).
