Solved My Pictures Shell Error (redundant)

As seen above the "my pictures shell" lost it's wonderful green color and has duplicated itself. I have no idea how this happened but I would like some thoughts on how to get rid of the redundant folders and get back the regular green icon.

Additional info:

Trying to delete the folders gives a "access denied" message

Saving pictures to any of the folders or sub-folders causes an error message to pop up any time I try to access them saying "file is unavailable"

I've tried restoring windows to an earlier state with no success.

Please and Thanks

@Brink

I followed step two and didn't get my original "my pictures" back but I did get rid of one of the redundant "trees"

@townsbg

Did a virus and malware scan that both came up zeros. Also I ran the SFC and read the results but didn't see any errors pertaining to any my documents files.

There is mention of restoring certain files using the Windows DVD. I don't have a Vista DVD unfortunately. Anything else I can try? What about deleting that redundant file string using the registry editor and then adding the correct one?

Or is that not possible. My understanding of command prompt type stuff is pretty novice. Sorry if I'm not making sense.

If you like, back up anything that you do not want to lose inside these folders to another location, create a new administator account for yourself, log off, log on to the new account, copy any shortcuts or files your want from the old account, delete the old account and it's C:\Users\(user-name) folder.

This way you'll start fresh with a new account. It'll be quicker than trying to track down and fix each folder in the old account.

Starting to think that's the best (easiest) solution. Thanks for the quick responses folks! Happy Turkey Day.
