how to dim or brighten vista screen

How do I dim/darken my vista desktop screen? I searched "Control Panel" and can't find anything. I also googled such a topic and I am not satisfied with the answers. There is a option at the right side of my computer but when I touch the screen, it makes a loud bleep noise. This doesn't help when I am in a dark room where other people are trying to sleep. My second question is how do I silence that noise. Thanks

To my knowledge screen brightness is not a windows setting but rather it is something that is hardware specific. If your computer supports screen brightness changes then there should be a utility or key that controls it. As for the sound look for that setting in the utility that control brightness.

What is the make model of your computer?

If you have Nvidia control panel you can change the brightness using this application.

To eliminate windows system sounds, go to control panel sound,
click on sounds, in sound scheme click on the down arrow and select none. Click on the tick so it dissapears under play windows startup sound.

You probably already tried but Did you right click on the power options in the task bar because the screen brightness can be changed from there,
