connecting external HDD via esata causes not responding?

i have an external HDD wich i usually connect via usb2.0 however as esata provides better performance decided to purchase an esata cable i have just connected it and it causes my computer window to become unresponsive and not display my drives? C: D: or MY external drive E:

does anyone have any ideas on this one

Type Disk Management into the start/search field and you'll see. When you have it, maximize it, take a snip with the snipping tool (in all programs > accessories) and post it here (with the paper clip above the message posting field).
